One of the main lessons learned
from your parents growing up was always “Think before you speak.” Well, in this
case it’s more like “Think before you act!” In recent news, Burger King shot a
commercial campaigning their new chicken snack wraps. Without the shot being
fully prepared, Burger King released this viral content (commercial) last
Monday and some of Mary J. Blige fans where livid! Saying that the commercial
was stereotypical. On Tuesday the company pulled the ad and said that there was
a music licensing issue, and that the spot was unfinished. This clearly was a
“premature” advertisement, and no final approvals were obtained. Burger King
apologized to Mary J and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final.
Blige released a statement saying
that she understood why her fans were upset, that the ad didn’t come across the
way it was planned and that she would never put an unfinished spot.
Burger King is in the process of finalizing the commercial.
The point is, know your industry and the logistics of it thoroughly
and the steps to a complete execution. I guess even Burger King sometimes can’t
even have it their way.
